School for Dogs Overview
HAVING A WELL-TRAINING DOG IS A LIFESTYLE.
Send your dog to school while you're at work! You’ll be able to drop your dog off as early as 7am & come pick them back up the same day as late as 6:30pm Monday through Friday.
During the day, your dog will get potty breaks, handpicked playgroups to give your dog positive social interactions (or training walks for non-social dogs), and 1-on-1 training sessions with our professional dog trainers while at our facility in Portland, OR.
REQUIREMENTS FOR DAYTRAINING:
Age Requirements: No age requirements, must have two rounds of Distemper Parvo vaccinations.
Confinement Requirement: Your dog must be comfortable in confinement and with being alone for at least 2 hours to attend daytime services with us.
Spay Neuter Policy: Dogs do not have to be spayed or neutered, but female dogs must not be in season.
Play Groups: If you have a dog selective dog, playgroups are not guaranteed. Our groups are based on daily compatibility.
Our Daytraining Programs
Like a school would work, your dog will get a 1-on-1 training session and outing with our professional dog trainers to practice important skills you've always wanted them to learn. You get to pick which program you wish for your dog to participate in, and upon entering the program, your dog is placed into phase one of a 3-phase training plan.
There are 7 programs for adult dogs (see below) and 1 for Puppies. Your dog will enter the next training phase when they demonstrate that they’ve learned the skills from the prior phase.
IMPORTANT: To see the best results, we recommend you read all the provided written training plans, watch the included videos, practice your dog’s homework regularly, and attend Private Training OR Group Classes in conjunction with daytraining.

FAQs
-
We recommend at least 5 half or full day training sessions scheduled once per week on the same day each week to start.
You will see the most success with daytraining if you're practicing homework exercises daily and attending private training or group classes at Urban Pawsibilities.
If you send your dog to daytraining but don't do any of the follow up, your dog will likely do great with us but will have trouble generalizing their new skills to working with you!
-
The difference between our daystay program and our daytraining program is the level of training and reporting that occurs during your dog’s time with us.
Daytraining programs are either half days and full days, where the main difference is the length of stay.
The daystay program is our basic care and training program for dogs that are comfortable in confinement. Daystay clients receive a short report card with pictures at the end of the day.
Daytraining is open to new clients, clients in need of more guidance on what to work on at home, and dogs with severe behavior modification needs.
Daytraining clients receive a short report card with pictures at the end of their day, as well as a link to our program materials, including written training plans, videos demonstrating technique, and other helpful information.
-
Puppies must have 2 rounds of distemper/parvo vaccinations before attending.
Puppies under 10 weeks old are generally not admitted unless under special circumstances.
Puppies between 10-20 weeks old should start in our half day program or attend the Saturday School for Puppies program.
-
We recommend no more than two sessions a week. Learning doesn’t happen faster just because your dog is with us 5 days a week. Two sessions a week is plenty to get the ball rolling on any behavior modification plan.
-
We sell packages of 5 for all of our day services that reduce the cost per visit. See pricing above.
-
Payment is due for services on the day of the appointment.

Dogs’ first visits vary widely. For dogs that have done a daycare program before, they settle in quite easily into their new routine. Dogs that have never been separated from their people or have general fear/anxiety of being separated in general can have a rough first day. But keep in mind that we are expecting and prepared for that!
You will drop off your dog between 7-9am, and after that, we will get to work on setting your dog up for success. After you come to pick your dog up (between 12:30-1 pm for half day dogs, and between 4-6:30 pm for full day dogs), you will be sent a report card with pictures from your dog’s stay, and if your dog is here for daytraining that report card will also include a link to our daytraining program materials.
-
The daytraining program materials are broken up into categories of behavioral focus, like loose leash walking and recall, and include three phases of training: knowledge acquisition, practice and development of skills, and proofing. Each phase includes written training plans, videos demonstrating technique, and other helpful information to aid your practice at home. In order to move to the next phase of training, the trainer your dog is working with must demonstrate that your dog has mastered the skills required of the phase in a test proctored by one of our head trainers.
-
We absolutely recommend booking a private lesson in addition to your dog’s daytraining sessions to help keep up training at home.
-
It depends. Generally we ask that dogs can be alone and confined for at least 2 hours bursts.
If your dog has moderate to severe separation anxiety (cannot be alone or confined), we recommend starting with in-home private lessons before moving forward with drop off, day services.
If your dog has mild separation anxiety, but can be confined, we recommend starting them in our half day program for a trial. Please contact us directly via email before scheduling.
-
Dogs with general anxiety can be admitted to half day and full day daytraining only, and must be working with a trainer in private lessons.
-
We take dogs that are dog and people reactive/aggressive and dogs with bite histories. If your dog has a bite history with strange humans, we recommend signing up for onsite private lessons first.
Note: Bite histories must be disclosed in the dog’s profile when signing them up for services.
-
We take puppies that are not potty trained, and can work on that with your puppy while they are with us.
-
Please disclose any food allergies or sensitivities your dog may have in their profile before signing up for services. If they require special treats outside of the scope of what we provide at the facility, you are responsible for supplying us with treats appropriate for your dog.
-
If you dog has any contagious illnesses: kennel cough, giardia, oral warts, or if your female dog is in heat, they cannot attend drop off services at the facility until they are no longer contagious. Should we notice any of these abnormalities, your dog will be isolated and you will be called to pick them up or turned away at drop off. We recommend dogs that are experiencing digestive upset (vomiting and diarrhea) also stay home.
