Urban Pawsibilities Response to CIRD

Dear Urban Pawsibilities Dog Guardians,

If you have not yet heard, there is an atypical canine infectious respiratory illness being seen in dogs in the Portland Metro and Willamette Valley areas.

What You Should Do

We encourage you to read THIS ARTICLE which was updated on 11/23 by the Oregon VMA.

Precautions We Are Taking

Urban Pawsibilities will continue to operate group classes, school for dogs, and private training.

We will be taking precautions per recommendations by the Oregon VMA:

  • No communal water bowls for the time being (dogs already have access to water in their own enclosures)

  • Ensuring staff wash their hands between all dogs they train and playgroups they operate

  • Continuing to keep playgroups small (less than 5 dogs) and consistent (same playmates as much as possible)

  • Refraining from allowing dogs to lick the trainer's face, etc.

  • Continuing requiring up to date vaccination records

  • Turning away any dogs showing any signs of illness until they have been cleared by their veterinarian

  • Continue sanitizing our play floors, kennels, bowls, barriers, and toys every day

  • Assigning a toy and snuffle mat per dog, no cross-contamination

  • Notifying all clients should any of the dogs who attend come down CIRD

Per the Oregon VMA's recommendations, we encourage and ask that clients using Urban Pawsibilities services refrain from taking their dogs to the dog park, where they will be in contact with unknown and untraceable dogs.

If your dog shows any of the following symptoms, do not bring them to Urban Pawsibiltiies: coughing, sneezing, nasal and/or eye discharge, and lethargy. If your dog shows these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

We will continue to do our absolute best to keep our cleaning protocols and precautions as proactive as possible.

Additionally, if you'd like your dog to attend school and would prefer they *not* play with the other dogs, we are happy to make that accommodation.

Sincerely,

Urban Pawsibilities

Pro Tip: Keep your dog kennel as clean as possible to protect your dog against bacteria & viruses

We use KennelSol, a one-step cleaning liquid that works as a cleaner, disinfectant, and deodorizer for your dog’s kennel.

It’s powerful enough to kill harmful viruses, bacteria, and fungi and doesn’t harm dogs.
